Metamorphosis: Reverie in the Ocean

Aldous Huxley portrayed a highly developed and industrialized society in his dystopian novel "Brave New World." In this world, the concept of "soma," a miraculous drug capable of erasing all negative emotions and problems, governed the populace. People yielded to advanced technology, willingly relinquishing their pursuit of freedom.

This project similarly envisions a world transformed by technology, affecting the lives of marine creatures. It draws inspiration from the phenomenon of "pink pollution," which turned the Chubut River pink due to excessive use of sodium sulfite. The excessive industrialization of contemporary culture has contaminated the marine ecosystem, compelling animals to adapt to their changing environment, whether by choice or necessity.

During the time I worked on this project, almost the entire city of Shanghai was under quarantine, forcing residents to rely on online platforms to obtain essential supplies. This period posed challenges, particularly for the elderly population who struggled to adapt to the new technology while also dealing with food shortages. This situation parallels the predicament of the sea animals in my project, as both groups had to learn to embrace new technology to meet their basic survival needs.
